Coming soon to our office, our lovely Penelope is going to have an organic convenience store featuring all kinds of wonderful edible delights as well as handcrafted things edible and inedible. We will start with packaged/dried goods and move on to fresh produce later on. We plan to have some of our own garden produce for sale as well as sprouts. May your bodies and minds be nourished by our endeavors. <3
To all my beloved patients and friends:
Starting next year, 2017, I will be simplifying my fee schedule to $30 for all visits whether paid online, in person, or pre-paid. There will be no more $35 or $25 options, but you may still pre-pay if that helps you and your family.
As you know, I like to keep life simple, and this will simplify the experience for not only myself in my accounting work, but will also simplify the experience scheduling online for everyone. This will also make it easier to understand for new patients scheduling online.
May you find health and balance in all that you do. <3

Here, I'd like to share with everyone some snippets of my vacation in Costa Rica. I hope you enjoy and live vicariously through these images. <3
For all those interested, I will be offering a lecture on nutrition this month on February 20th at 1:00pm at Joyful Yoga in Peru, Indiana. Joyful yoga is right next door to Breakaway Bike shop in Peru at the corner of Wabash and East Main St.
The lecture will be focusing on simple techniques on how to heal the body through nutrition, and how to lower excesses which lead to increased inflammation and distress in the body. I will also tie the subject of nutrition to the Eastern concept of Yin and Yang which is very easy to understand.
It will cost $10 to attend. Half of the admissions will be donated to our local farmer's market to help provide chemical-free produce for the community, and the other half will pay to support our friends at Joyful Yoga. If you wish to attend, click on the facebook banner in the middle of the post. I hope to see you there. <3
Yet, we are poisoning our body. This is apparent in the upsurge of pollution related diseases and cancers that have been on the rise as pollution increases.
If the planet is sick, then we will definitely become sick. So it is my mission not only to heal people, but to help heal the planet by not contributing to poisoning her. I intend to spread awareness through my own waste management practices in the office. I hope to be an example for this community of zero compromise love for my mother earth.
I am happy to write that this office is now a zero landfill use location. I do not use the landfill at all. I compost all my face paper, food scraps, and basically anything that will rot into plant nutrients without being toxic to the soil. Anything that is not compostable (paper that contains toxic inks, plastic, ink cartridges, electronics, and metal) ends up going to recycling. Whatever is neither recyclable nor compostable (usually mixed plastic and paper wrappers) is burned. That which is burned is recycled by the carbon cycle. Burned paper and plastic becomes CO2 and ash. The CO2 is absorbed by plants for photosynthesis to become part of nature once again.
All things in nature are cyclical. Nothing accumulates. There is no such thing as waste in the natural world. Nature should be a model for us. We should not have waste either. We should be responsible for our actions. If something is too difficult to recycle, it may mean that we don't need it...
Living in the developed world, we generate a lot of waste. We should thank the earth for the luxuries it allows us to have by cleaning up after ourselves. If we cannot do this, then maybe we do not deserve the luxuries we feel that we are entitled to. All of us can do this. Being too busy to do it is simply a lack of motivation to implement it into daily habits and a lack of prioritization. Once it is part of the habits, it happens very effortlessly. You trained yourself at some point to use trash cans, this new habit of zero waste can also be trained.
If anyone reading this does not know how to compost or recycle please ask. I would be happy to talk about it with you. Thank you so much for reading. I love you. <3
Here is a quick update for everyone: it is official, my clinic is now located at 402 N Broadway in Peru. I am very excited to be practicing here, and I am really enjoying the space. It is full of good vibes, and definitely is pleasing to the eye. I am happier than a kid on Christmas. Thank you so much for all of your continued support through the transitions I have made. Everything is going very well, and I am enjoying myself through this entire process. I am learning quite a lot about operating in this world of business, and it is quite fun.
As a side note, but no less significant, my good friend Elaine Bracken-Hough is downstairs in the same building. She is a Licensed Massage Therapist who also does Reiki energy healing as well. She is a very loving individual, and she is very good at what she does. I am excited to be working under the same roof as Elaine. For the last several months Elaine has been leading a meditation class that I have been attending currently every Sunday at 6:30pm. It is such a beautiful time that I know everyone in the class looks forward to. It is such a connecting, loving, and open environment where we can all connect on a level beyond our physical minds and bodies. It really helps us find our center and balance our minds in a world that likes to pull us away from center and source to create imbalance.
Another side note, I would also like to make available omega-3 supplements from Nordic Naturals in my office. I plan to make them as affordable as possible. If you have questions about this, please ask. Omega-3 is one of the few supplements that I highly recommend. The deficiency of omega-3 is seen in over 90% of the US population, and is a contributor to most disease commonly linked to inflammation. In fact, omega-3 is our bodies natural anti-inflammatory, and a lack of this essential fatty acid will create several inflammatory problems. A well known example of this is heart disease, but other less commonly stated problems include things like fibromyalgia, arthritis, depression (the deficiency causes a lack of serotonin in the brain), attention-deficit disorders (due to alterations of brain chemistry and increased irritability of neural cells), diabetes, and even Alzheimer's. I recommend this to everyone, and I indeed supplement omega-3 myself. I also avoid confined grain fed animal protein, and look for wild or free ranged protein whenever possible due to the fact that these animals likely had access to chlorophyll (and other amazing things for the body). The Nordic Naturals brand of omega-3 supplements is the highest quality supplement that I know of, and is the one I take.
I want to off you everything that I know about health if you are seeking this knowledge. If you EVER want to know more about something and think I MIGHT know about it, please ask. I have probably looked into it at some point.
Again, thank you all so much, and I look forward to serving this community in every way that I can. My devotion is to your health and wellness, Peru. Thank you so much.
As promised, here is an update on my location situation. I plan to move to 402 N Broadway in Peru on September 1st. This building is across the street from Peru High School. My phone number will remain the same (765-472-7777).
As you have already seen, I have updated our website, and have added online scheduling. In a world as busy as this one, I feel this it is important to use the amazing tool we have created--the internet to help streamline our day. People can schedule visits with me and change their appointment up to an hour before the actual time of service.
I want my schedule to be alive and easily accessible to you so that we may both use our time together effectively. I am streamlining our interaction together, and I will focus on what matters the most-bringing you closer to wellness. The more quality time I spend with patients, the more people I am able to help achieve wellness.. The more people that achieve wellness, the more at peace our world is. The more at peace our world is, the more sustainable it is. Our current way of life is not sustainable not just within our bodies but also on the planet, we need to enter our chrysalis and undergo metamorphosis in order to thrive instead of merely get by as we are so used to doing right now. We need to admit when something does not serve the whole and change our ways to make it fit into the master plan.
These coming years, I plan on making donations to the local community to help educate and provide avenues for sustainable living. My friends and I wish to start community gardens in the surrounding area to help people wake up to the joys of sustainable life, and the health that this brings. We have already been providing chemical free produce to the local community through our newly created Peru Riverwalk Farmers' Market. It is all very exciting. I will have more updates on this as the plans materialize.
Also, I want you all to know that I provide other wellness resources besides physical chiropractic care. I also do free nutritional counselling after hours at the office. I have a wealth of knowledge that I have acquired over the years through my own pursuit of wellness. It is available to you any time you wish. All you have to do is ask. If you are curious about anything, don't be shy... ask. I will give you my opinion, and share my experience with you. May your evening be blessed. Peace, friends.
Due to many impending deadlines and circumstances, I have decided to make a large change in the way that I receive payment. I am no longer going to be accepting insurance. There are many reasons for this. The main reason for this is that insurance has become a large distraction from the care of your health. It has absolutely nothing to do with your well being. In fact, the health insurance system would like to ensure that you remain a customer for the rest of your life seeking health, but never finding it.
This is proven in Medicare's rules. A Chiropractor may provide "corrective care" but may not provide "supportive care." Who is determining what is corrective care, and what is supportive care? Is it the doctor? Is it the patient? Neither. It is someone who looks at some scribblings that I have written on a piece of paper about our office visit, and then determines whether or not the visit was medically necessary, and then they can decide whether or not they want to pay for it. However, just the simple fact that you were in my treatment room, to me, determines the medical necessity of the chiropractic care received. If you are in my treatment room receiving treatment, both you and I are in agreement that Chiropractic care is medically necessary.
Let me illustrate a scenario to you. You and I had an encounter, and based on what I said, since we met each other in office, we determined that this was a medically necessary visit. You came to me for a problem or a desire to prevent problems, and I fixed the problem or I helped you prevent one. Now, here is what Medicare and insurance wants. They do not want me to prevent problems. They want me to treat actively existing problems. If I try to prevent problems, they will not pay me. They deem this as "supportive care" and will not pay after the service was already performed. So in effect, they have arbitrarily decided that my judgement and training was wrong, and that you did not deserve care, so then I did not deserve payment.
We all know that the true path to health is to prevent problems before they arise, not when they are in full force because of a lack of foresight and pro-activity. The origin of true wellness comes from an ability to prevent problems before they manifest. This brings me back to my original point that insurance companies do not want you to find wellness. They want you to seek it, never find it, and spend money on their services for the rest of your life. Tell me this though, what services do they provide for you? Do they wash your car, do your dishes, cut your hair, or mow your grass? There is no real action besides pushing papers and negotiations so that they get a cut in everything. I have decided to cut them out. It is far too time consuming to deal with them, and I have also found out that for the amount of extra services that I must pay for in order to then receive payment, I could simply charge you less per visit. We both save money, and there is less need for unnecessary busy-ness in a world that is already too busy. I can take my mind away from the distraction of insurance and paperwork to focusing even more on helping you on your path to wellness and happiness, which is my true mission in life. I simply need a roof over my head (sometimes) and good quality food in my belly, so that I may continue helping you. This also does not mean that you cannot use your insurance if you wish to. I can print you out a "super-bill" of all treatments given in a certain amount of time, and you may then bill your favorite insurance for re-imbursement. That said, I hope our journey together does not end, and I may continue helping you on your journey to health.
During this month of August, 2015, I will be making the transition to a practice that no longer bills insurance companies. I will be streamlining everything about the practice to lower the cost of running the practice. I may even be moving to a new location. You will be notified of this in another news letter once the decision is made. Our month of September should materialize a new practice with the same quality of care that I have always given, and hopefully at a price that everyone who needs it can afford.
1. Starting September, I will no longer be billing insurance. All visits will be paid for in-house under a different fee structure than what it currently is. Cash, check, debit, and credit cards will only be accepted. All visits will be paid for that day. If no payment is received, you must pay off the previous balance before you may receive care again. There will be no sending out of bills anymore which will allow me to charge even less per visit since I will not be paying a biller.
2. There is a possibility that I will be moving to a new location within Peru (this is only a possibility, and you will be notified if this does indeed happen)
3. Even though this practice is no longer billing insurance, it does not mean that insurance will not still pay for it. You can indeed bill your respective insurance company yourself for reimbursement. I can provide you with a "super-bill" that determines the amount that you have paid for a certain period, and they will send money directly to you.
This has been a long time coming, and now the pressures of many deadlines bring us change. I want you to know that I sincerely enjoy helping you all find your way to health, but I must make some changes here in order to continue to make this happen. If you have any questions about this, please let me know.
